SureKits
SureKits in the operating room
An add-on module to SureKits that monitors and tracks surgical instruments inside the operating room.
What it is
It is an add-on module to SureKits, made of RFID reading hardware and an additional software module. Inside the operating room it follows the surgical instruments that were actually used in each procedure.
Reading tables or portable collectors count and check before and after surgery.
How it works
Before surgery
With the instruments laid on the reading table, or checked with the collector over a non-metallic table, the count checks every item.
During the procedure
If an instrument is thrown into the monitored bin, the CME is warned to check for possible breakage.
At the end of surgery
The scrub nurse or nurse separates what was used from what was not, and the count is made with the collector in two steps, on the checking table.
Patient and procedure
Each instrument is associated with the patient and procedure. When the module integrates with the operating room patient identification system, that record is made without typing.
Benefits
Less reprocessing
By identifying what is not used, the hospital can trim kits and cut reprocessing. The gain depends on the hospital; see the Evidence and ROI page.
What was really used
Monitors the instruments actually used during the procedure.
Support for checking
Warns about missing items in the count, as an aid to checking instruments.
Problems recorded
Automatically records instruments that are contaminated, need maintenance or have broken.
Record per patient
Associates each instrument with the patient and procedure, making the record required by Anvisa RDC 15/2012 easier.
Room freed sooner
Instant identification cuts counting time after surgery and raises room turnover.
The portable collector in action
Instruments on the table, checked by a portable collector.
