The sterile processing challenge

Every box must come back complete, clean and sterilized, and checking is still manual today.

Anvisa RDC 15, of March 15, 2012, requires traceability of processing, including sterilization batches. Individual RFID identification is not mandatory, but SureKits produces the data that makes that record easier.

In one sentence: reading instruments with RFID reduces item-by-item manual counting.

Who SureKits is for

SureKits serves anyone who needs to know, instrument by instrument, what went out and what came back.

  • Hospitals

The operating room and the sterile processing team check, assemble and follow kits with fast reading and real usage data.

  • Sterile processing companies

Companies that process instruments for several hospitals identify every box and every instrument, and can prove what they received, processed and returned.

  • Companies that rent instruments for OPME

Companies that supply instrument boxes for implanting orthoses, prostheses and special materials track every box that leaves and returns, and check that it came back complete.

The same tag and the same reading equipment serve all three.

Identix reading equipment

The equipment that counts and checks the instruments is made by Identix, designed for UHF RFID.

Identix ID50 handheld RFID collector

ID50 handheld RFID collector

Handheld UHF RFID collector running Android. It counts and checks instruments and boxes in the operating room, in decontamination or in the supply room, with the instruments laid out on a non-metallic table. It is the simplest starting point for SureKits.

Identix DR-max RFID reading table

DR-max reading table

A reading table for decontamination and assembly in the sterile processing department: instruments placed on the table are identified and checked without manual scanning.

What makes up SureKits

  • RFID tags

They identify every instrument and every box and withstand sterile-processing routines, including the autoclave.

  • Reading tables and collectors

The DR-max reading table, used in decontamination and assembly in the sterile processing department, and handheld RFID collectors, such as the ID50, count and check the items.

  • Integration with the CME software

Reading data feeds the management software the hospital already uses, through integration.

  • Operating-room module

Follows, inside the room, the instruments actually used in each procedure.

In the cloud or at your hospital

SureKits is a cloud platform. Each institution chooses how to receive it: on cloud or on-premises, according to its needs.

  • On cloud

Identhis runs the platform in the cloud and the institution reaches it over the internet, with no servers to maintain.

  • On-premises

The platform is deployed on the institution’s own infrastructure, for those who need to keep data inside the institution.

The same platform in both models. The choice is the institution’s and can be discussed at the start of the project.

What science has already measured

Faster counting, checked assembly, right-sized kits: we gathered what the literature has documented about RFID on surgical instruments, separating what was measured from what is an estimate.

There is also a calculator so you can run the numbers for your own hospital.
